Wild Weather

Hasn’t the weather in Perth been strange over the past week. A day or two of beautiful sunny days and then some crazy, wet, wild and woolly days to boot! All of this, just when most of us were beginning to think that the warmer weather was finally here to stay for a bit! Very strange indeed.

Sometimes in our lives we get caught in some strange happenings. Perhaps we have periods where everything is going well and then all of sudden something comes along to take us by complete surprise, such a failing a driving test or maybe not doing so well in a school assignment or exam. It can be hard to fathom sometimes why things go the way they do.

The Bible tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:16, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” It can be hard to rejoice, pray and give thanks in ALL circumstances but perhaps there is a key here to enjoying everlasting peace and fighting anxiety. Let’s do our best, work hard and leave the rest to God and no matter what lets trust that He has a reason for all things that happen. In doing this perhaps we will find it easier to Live For God, Full On, Full Time, All the Time!

This week our update is full of wonderful reports of what has occurred in the past week apart from the strange weather, across the 24:7 Youth Ministry network. Please also keep an eye for upcoming events that are on the horizon which we would strongly encourage as many young people to attend as possible.

School Ministry

We had the pleasure of running our final Confirmation Retreat for the year with the students from the St Kieran’s parish and school communities. It was a blessed day, and we were so blessed to have a number of Student Leaders and Youth Ministry Interns join us as part of the team.

We also had a whole heap of fun delivering our Leadership Retreat to the year 5 students at Newman College where we looked at the qualities of Superheroes and most importantly Jesus, in establishing good behaviours for upcoming leaders.

Last Friday night we launched into the more fun and games, and our fourth session in our Life and Leadership Program: Interacting with the World - How Others Treat Me. Our first game was Clumps and Bases with 45 youth and it was quite a sight to see the groups form and balance and break! Energy was then transferred to the game of Hoop, Shoot, Dodge; where everyone wanted to get the goal to win but also risked changing the side they were playing for when they got ht by the dodgeball. Both games in a way showed how we interacted with people throughout our life, forming and balancing relationships, and sometimes facing and causing adversity in our interaction with others. After a short clip showing wisdom from the Lion King, Matt spoke of how others can cause us hardship through words and actions. Sometimes these could bring us down but why should we let it? Matt's encouragement was for the youth to control our emotion and reaction in the face of negativity and let go of its power to affect us. The youth then shared experiences in share groups.

This week we look at the World - How I treat Others, in the Life and Leadership Program! Invite your friends!

Also this Saturday, the girls are invited to our Sisterhood High Tea and Sleep Out! Details can be found at Sisterhood247.rsvpify.com and RSVP there by Thursday! Contact Ming Yan on 0414 998 043 if you have any questions.

Last Friday we kicked off Term 4 of the year with some great fellowship time and then played some super fun games like stuck in the mud and cups and downs, led by volunteer leader Steph and Dan from Youth Mission Team! Dinner was provided by Marianne Suarez and was amazing so thank you!! Roger gave a quick sharing after, centering on relationships, in particular how our words and actions can affect others in a big way without us even realising. He also spoke on are we building one another up with kind words and actions, or down with unkind words and actions? Small group discussion time focused on four main questions, such as how can we build each other up and what are the ways we can build the relationships we already have?

Come along this week to learn more and have more fun with everyone! We really hope see you there!

On Sunday at youth group we looked at how our every day decisions are motivated by the pursuit of happiness. God gives us free will to either seek heavenly joy through the pursuit of the Beatitudes (Matt 5: 1-12) or temporal happiness through the pursuit of worldly goods through easy options. Happiness is a desire placed upon our hearts by God that only He can fulfil. Rather than just pursuing happiness, we must pursue God.

This week we will dive deeper in the purist of happens by looking at God’s law and the role that it plays in our lives , as well as the grace that we are given to help them follow it.

Osborne Park

Last Friday at youth group we began the first official week of the term with Guest speaker and YMT ministry co-ordinator David Pullella who spoke about the meaning behind praising God in song. David drew on the importance of praising God because he deserves to be praised and that by thanking God in all situations we allow him to work in every part of our life. During the night we also had MCs Samuel and Brigid lead us in a few games followed by free time to finish the night.

We hope to see you there this week!

Nedlands

On Friday we started the term off talking about the first of the sacraments, Baptism. The talk was given by the awesome Mario Borg with a skit performed by a couple of our leaders. During the night we played an awesome couple of games, had an amazing dinner provided by parents and celebrated one of the young people’s birthday! In the end, there was furniture everywhere and faces covered in cake, so you know it was a good night.

This week, one of our leaders will be giving a talk on Reconciliation! Hope to see you there!

Servite

Friday afternoon at Servite kicked off the final term for the year! This term we are looking at the Sacraments and how we can be transformed by them. We started the afternoon with a game of snakes and ladders run by our awesome student leader Thomas. Following this we saw some of the young people participate in a 'not my arms' challenge, where the girls did make up and the boys got a shave. This was to demonstrate our theme of transformation. We then moved into a small talk from youth chaplain Paul, and heard a small testimony from youth minister Aloyse. We concluded the formal proceedings with a time of reflection where the young people were able to write down the ways they would like to be transformed through the Sacraments.

We can't wait until this week where we will explore the Sacrament of Baptism in Scripture.
